 As
it says in Matthew 4:19 that if we follow Him he will make us fishers of
men.
Fishers of Men = to help others find God
Who should I witness to?
You would be surprised how many people that you talk to or affiliate with every day
that are not saved! Friends, family, co-workers, and the list goes
on....
A lot of people know about God just like they do
about a place called Heaven and a place called Hell but, that doesn't mean they are
saved or believe in Jesus and what He did for us.
Oh, you may say "my family won't listen to me, they never do!"
same goes for your friends "they might reject me, they might think
I'm like some Jesus freak or something".
In John 4:35 it says "Do you not say, 'Four months more and
then the harvest'? Stop putting this off. Your friends and family
could never be ready to believe (a lot of people aren't) but, that
doesn't mean you can't try. ..
There may be times of rejection from others. They aren't rejecting you
they are rejecting Jesus. You have gained all the less by telling
them, because one day in their life they may look back on that. They will
be curious because you have told them something they don't know. It can
be positive and it can be negative, it is whichever way they take
it.
"If people do not welcome
you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave their town, as a
testimony against them. Luke 9:5
God will direct you to
people ready to hear His word.
What's the use of witnessing?
As Jesus says in Matthew 28:19-20:
Go and make disciples of all nations... And teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you.
In Genesis 40:8 Joseph spoke of God in his interpretations of dreams. He
could have used his dreams, to his advantage but, he focused everyone's
attention on God. They were curious and they listened. He turned it into
a witness for God.
When the opportunity comes up we must use it to its full
advantage, God's advantage. You would be surprised how easily you
can be talking about something and bring God into it. This is a very
powerful and effective way to witness.
When do I witness?
Anytime and anyplace. Seek God when you wake up every morning and ask
Him to give you a holy boldness that day. If you are very serious
He will send people to you. I've prayed the "Prayer of Jabez"
and God brought people to me instantly, believers and un-believers. He
will bring them to you even when you don't expect it, just use every opportunity
to its fullest. Just imagine how many times God was tugging at you to go
and do something and you didn't. You could have been blessed
beyond blessedness.
Where do I witness?
If you are involved in a church most churches have a visitation group.
They go out once every week to people who had visited the church. This
is a great way to be able to communicate with people that may not be
saved. This is your great opportunity to share the Lord with them and to
get comfortable doing so.
I will say that actually going out and proclaiming your faith at first
can be very difficult. But, you just have to think that if I follow the
Lord He will give me the holy boldness I need to witness to
others. We should have a great concern for the millions or even
thousands around us that are going to hell.
How do I witness?
You could start with someone close
to you that may not know the Lord. Start a conversation, talk with them
about something you both have in common and quite openly mention God,
your Christianity, or even your church. Maybe, your church is doing
something this week and they want you to invite someone, invite them.
They may or may not go but, they will wonder about it and might go next
time. I've invited many of my friends to church, at first they would say
"oh, I'm busy" or "maybe next time" but, I kept
pressing on nicely and one of them finally came. Sometimes you have to
keep pressing on because they will wonder why does this person care for
me soo much to go and do this.
You can witness to just about anyone by starting a conversation,
inviting someone to a church event/activity, saying "God loves
you" just about anything is possible when it comes to
witnessing.
I've gone to malls and just went up to others and said "Jesus loves
you" and handed them a tract or just invited them to a church or
revival. Some were grateful that we told them and others shunned
us. Not everyone will agree with everything and we do have to remember
that. God will bring to us more and more people willing to listen.
You can leave out tracts after you eat at a restaurant included with
your tip. Leave them in bathrooms, hotel rooms (for the maid), park
benches, just about anywhere you think someone would look.
I've even witnessed to others online, in chat rooms. It's that easy!
As long as you have Jesus and His holy word with you, He will lead you
in the right direction and He will lead others to you.
